 Why join?

We are a friendly club, welcoming all new members from beginners to age group athletes, and everyone in between. We offer regular training sessions in Liverpool, Wirral, and in and around Sefton, which are a great chance to improve your triathlon and swap advice with fellow members.

Mersey Tri triathlon club and was created over 35 years ago we have always prided ourselves on our community spirit. With a wealth of experienced members, coaches and athletes of all levels we aim to make everyone feel welcome.

Our community is what makes Mersey Tri such a fantastic club. Our membership is made of a wide range of experienced athletes including novices, triathlete and duathlon specialists, cycling time trialists, Ironman Kona qualifiers, GB age group representives, open water swimmers, runners, European and world champions. We recognise the passion our membership has not only for triathlon but for a wide range of sports.

For a yearly membership of £25, as a member of the Mersey Tri team, you will have access to:

  • Details of our weekly run sessions in your local area (Liverpool Tuesdays, Sefton Wednesdays and Wirral Thursdays).

  • Access to our coached swim sessions that take place weekly in Sefton (Formby Pool and Crosby Leisure Centre), the Wirral (Caldy Pool and the Oval) and Liverpool (Austin Rawlinson).

  • Access to our open water sessions at Liverpool watersports centre (May - September)

  • A chance to win one of our yearly awards at the annual awards evening (December)

  • You will also be able to compete in our club championship (taking part over the north west races)

  • Access to club offers such as 10% off at local running shop Natterjacks (Liverpool city centre, North John Street)

As part of Mersey Tri, you can get involved with local running (Cross Country & Multi Terrain) and cycling leagues (Liverpool Time Trials & national cycling time trails competition), as well as club events we put on for members (Swim Run & SealMan). Our members are going from strength to strength at these events and you’ll find the team spirit infectious!

We host an annual AGM and awards night to recognise the hard work and achievements of our members. Membership of Mersey Tri also offers a discount at local stores, and membership of both Mersey Tri and England Athletics Affiliation (see below) gives you the chance to be in the draw for a London Marathon place (additional EA membership needed).

Memberships

Subscriptions for membership are taken online, using an annual, rolling 12 month system. Renewal reminders and links are sent one month before membership expires. 

Annual Membership subscriptions are as follows:

  • Adult - £25.00 (17 years and above)

  • Adult Concession - £10.00 (unwaged)

  • Youth - £5 (16 years and below)

We would ask all members to abide by our clubs Code of Conduct and Dock Swim Rules.

FAQs

What does it cost?

  • £19 for 2024/2025

  • England Athletics (EA) membership runs from 1 April - 31 March

  • EA membership must be renewed between 1 April and by no later than 30 June in order to receive the full yearly benefits

Why is it offered through the club?

Mersey Tri normally leave it up to each individual to decide and manage their own affiliations e.g. Triathlon England, British Cycling etc.. However, EA require clubs to manage affiliation on behalf of their members.

What are the benefits?

Soon as your payment is processed you will be able to download your card EA membership card directly from the EA myAthletics Portal

I’m already affiliated to an athletics club. How does this affect me?

  • It depends on your situation & intentions

  • If you want to run for your existing running club

  • Do not select the optional extra England Athletics membership option

  • It is fine to race triathlons or to just be a member of Mersey Tri & race for another running club.

  • There is the option to register as a second claim without payment. This should be discussed with our England Athletics coordinator.


If you want to run for Mersey Tri

You will need to select and pay for the additional EA membership option. You will need to complete a change of first claim club form and be deregistered from your previous club. More information and the relevant forms can be found on the England Athletics website.

** If you have previously been registered with another athletics club even if you have not run with or for them in some time the change of first claim form may be required. There is fee associated with this levied by England athletics. **

 Data Protection

Mersey Tri (the Club), is affiliated to Triathlon England and undertakes to comply with TE’s “Good Practice in Triathlon” policy.  The Club is not registered with the Data Protection Agency but undertakes to comply with the Data Protection Act.

Your personal details will only be used for the administration of the Club’s affairs and will not be passed to a third party without your consent.
