At Salt Ayre, Lancaster, twenty one of our age 8 to 16 members were in action on 19thSeptember competing for the North West Region Club Championships. With the swim in a 25 metre pool, the cycling on an enclosed tarmac circuit and most of the running on a track there was no opportunity to sneak a lead or to slack off! Racing was frenetic. At the end our boys lost the title they have held for the last two years, finishing second, whilst our girls finishing in third, had their best result yet. Elliot Bujac in the 9-10 age group was the only winner for our boys while for the girls there were wins in the youngest and oldest age groups, Emma Poulston in the 8 year olds and Anna Hulme in the Youth (15-16) category. As well as the race winners all our young athletes scored points for the club in this one off championship event. Congratulations to all our young members and a big thank you to all the parents for their support.
The club championship was the last event in a 15 event race series that started back in March at the Mersey Tri Oval aquathlon and also included our Oval Triathlon and, new for this year, the Crosby open water aquathlon organised for the club by Mike Lisle. Provisional results show Elliot Bujac to be the overall winner in the Tristar One (age 9-10) age group with Keira Brady-Jones finishing 3rd for the girls. In the Tristar 2 (age 11-12) Olivia Logan was our top girl in 6th with Fraser Cooke 3rd for the boys. Unfortunately we had no serious contenders for the girls in the T3 (age 13-14) category but in a very competitive boys series Louis Johnston finished a close second. In the top age group, Youth (age 15-16), Anna Hulme did us proud with an overall win and Harry Cooke finishing in 3rd. We must congratulate all the Mersey Tri members who competed for the club in any of the race series events and of course, to the parents whose commitment played a major part in the success of our youngsters.
